The past tense of the verb "rely" is "relied". Interestingly, this transformation follows a rule where English verbs ending in "y" generally change the "y" to an "i" and add "ed" to form their past tense. Similarly to "rely", we have "try" becoming "tried" and "apply" becoming "applied". Don't you just love how language has its own little patterns and rules to follow?
