Have you ever heard the phrase "he said" or "she said"? Well, that my friend, is the past tense of the verb "say"! When we want to talk about something that was spoken in the past, we use the past tense of the verb "say". So if you wanted to say that someone spoke in the past, you could say "he said" or "she said".
The past tense of "say" is quite simple to remember because it follows the same pattern as most other regular verbs in English. To form the past tense of "say", we simply add "-ed" to the end of the present tense form "say", resulting in the past tense form "said".
It's important to note however, that not all verbs in English follow this pattern. There are some irregular verbs which have unique past tense forms that can't be formed by adding "-ed". But luckily, the past tense of "say" isn't one of them, making it easier for English language learners to master!
